Hello everybody, I hope those in cold climates are staying warm and those in warm climates know how lucky you are! Because of how cold it is, I am sure that the places on my list are a bit biased to warmer blessed areas of the globe, but I do have some that are pretty cold during the winter months. If anybody has some suggestions, please comment and keep in mind these factors: Money, security, I don’t drink/party, I like going off the beaten path, food is not an issue because I will eat ANYTHING!

1. Philippines. This mass of over 7,000 islands is from what I have heard a great combination of cheap, beautiful, safe, and unique plus they speak english. Lately, I’ve be looking at the islands of Palawan and Mindoro. Palawan was named the most beautiful island in the world by Conde Nast Traveler. Mindoro is REALLY off the beaten path with some big tourism but not much.

2. Belize. This is an English speaking country in the Caribbean, plus it is very safe and cost friendly. It is an amazingly beautiful country and has beaches, islands off the coast, jungles, and ancient Mayan ruins.

3. Church mission trip to who-knows-where. My church does a lot of mission trips and it seem like a fun way to further your religious walk and have some fun adventures with close friends. My church is doing them all the time but I do not know where or when the next one will be, but I am going to make another post about various places, past and present that my church goes and will be going to.

4. Transylvania, Romania. My grandfather grew up there as a boy and then had to escape the Nazi government at about age 10. We are of the Hungarian minority from Romania as Transylvania was part of the Hungarian kingdom for many years. I am a proud Hungarian and I love tales of the region about Vlad “The Impaler” Tepes and Attila the Hun and of the first king of Hungary, Istvan (Steven) I, my name sake. The country is cheaper than western European countries and has many places off the beaten path to discover. Bran Castle in Brasov is a must! I speak some Hungarian and a little Romanian, but I’m working on both still.

5. Thailand. Once again, cheap, beautiful, relatively safe from what I I have heard, but the places I want to go in the south of Thailand are big party places and I would stick out like a sore thumb. If anybody has some places I might like there please comment.

6. China. This one would be mostly for martial arts purposes, and to climb some of the famous temple mountains for their beauty but not so much for spiritual purposes. Mount Wudang is where I would probably be in Henan province because I have always wanted to learn the sword style and Taijiquan there. This is probably the most expensive of the countries, but I would like to do it someday.

This was narrowed down from about 20 countries, but I will get to those someday I hope! I know many of you have unique experiences and stories and places from all over the place so please share with me as much as you can and give me any information on the countries I have listed. I’m going to go eat some dinner and venture out into the cold one more time to let my four legged friends out.

The oldest buildings that they have in Old Salem are from the 1730s. One thing I spotted that wasn’t on the tour was an old Benjamin Franklin lightning rod still on the church from the time he invented it!

That is debatable. I say that am white because that is what the majority of my bloodline is. My dad is from Peru, but his native blood is only a small fraction because his father is spanish/jewish with a minute amount of native from about 150 years ago and his mother is english/danish.

          • theitinerary1
